Come to the world of Spanish Football and you would notice two giants- FC Barcelona and Real Madrid. Even Real Madrid was outrun by Barca in the past few years. The contributions from Andres Iniesta, Xavi, Messi, Puyol, Valdes, Pique and Cesc Fabregas along with the rising stars Neymar, Pedro, etc. have made Barca the crowned kings in the Spanish world. The beginning of 2013-2014 season saw Barca beginning almost all the title hunts as the reigning champions. But, the end of 2014 season has left Barcelona in a title drought. Yes, Barca are title less this season. Is this the beginning of the end for Barca?

After taking over from Frank Rijkaard in 2008, Josep Guardiola gave the team all the six titles in the very first year. From then on, Barca never looked back. Even when Tito Vilanova took over, Barca retained its supremacy. Typical football style, unmatched over the globe, gave barca more and more fans. Barca gave more and more interesting games in return. But, after Tito left owing to health reasons, Barca did not seem fine. Rumours of misunderstandings in the team became common. The Catalans seemed to be going out of touch. Even Messi seemed to have forgotten the trick of scoring goals after returning from injury.

The fall of Barcelona this season is tough to be explained. All except for a Messi injury, Barca did not have many problems. Even that could have been easily compensated given the presence of this year’s new signing Neymar. With Xavi, Iniesta, Pedro, Mascherano, Piqué, Puyol, Valdés, Messi and Neymar amongst the ranks they should have performed better. It cannot even be argued that luck

was not in their favour . Even after a disappointing second half of the tournament, Fortuna gave her blessings by causing last minute flops among Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid. This helped the catalans in making the last game a final, winning which could have given Barca the championship title.

The final with Atletico was a well matched one, it should be admitted, but when Barca goes on a draw at the top level, it is difficult to digest. The equaliser from Atletico came well before the 50 minute mark at the 48th minute point in the timeline. It is unbelievable that Barca could not find one more goal in the remaining time even after regular and frequent visits to the Atletico post. One could see all the Barca strikers roaring into the other half, but none of them could find the back of the net.

If this is the beginning of the end for Barca, then it is the colour of club football that is about to fade as it was nothing but the famous ‘Tiki-Taka’ from the Catalans that held the top most position in the millions of football loving hearts in the planet. The new coach, about to arrive after Martino declares himself unfit for the job and resigns, should find some practical way to take Barca back to the top of the Spanish League table. The next season should be a do-or-die battle for FC Barcelona!
